This past summer Teacher Kelsey helped us make these DELICIOUS Cowboy Cookies in a Jar that we took home to bake. They were as fun to make as they were to eat! Here's how we did it...
Dry Ingredients for the Jar:
Wet Ingredients for Baking:
3/4 cup butter (or margarine for Vegan version), softened
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 cup milk of your choice (nut milks will work!)
Directions for Dry Ingredients:
Use a large, seal-able jar ( I use a 1 quart mason jar) in which to layer the dry ingredients.
Mix the flour, baking soda and salt together to make the first layer. Use a spoon or tap the jar on the counter gently to flatten this layer.
White sugar makes the next layer, then brown sugar and cinnamon mixed together, gently packed to make it lie flat.
Pour the oats on top of this layer and again gently tap the jar to settle it. Finish with a layer of cranberries and a layer of chocolate chips.
Seal the jar.
If you want to decorate it, cut out a festive circle of fabric and tie it over the top of the jar with a ribbon.

Directions for adding Wet Ingredients:
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees
Step 2: Pour Jar contents into a large bowl and stir until well combined.
Step 3: In a separate bowl, cream butter, vanilla and milk until smooth.
Step 4: Add butter mixture to jar contents. Mix until dough forms. If dough is too crumbly, add 1 or 2 Tablespoons of milk.
Step 5: Roll dough into balls and place on baking sheet. Bake 9-12 minutes, or until lightly golden brown on edges. Allow to cool 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
*** Alternatively, you can skip the jar and combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl, then follow these instructions to make a batch of cookies yourself!
